Getting HereLandry nestles slap bang in the middle of Paradiski, the 'super-resort' created by the opening of the enormous Vanoise Express cable car linking Les Arcs and La Plagne in 2003. The 1992 winter Olympics at Albertville have left behind a fantastic transport network, so Landry is a cinch to get to whichever way you choose to travel. Flying: Geneva, Lyon, Grenoble, Chambery and St Etienne airports are all within easy driving distance of us and have frequent services from the UK, especially during the winter. Many of the budget carriers offer exceptionally affordable fares. Easyjet, www.easyjet.com fly into Geneva, Grenoble and Lyon, Ryan Air, www.ryanair.com to St Etienne and Lyon and numerous airlines also service Grenoble and Chambery. All of the traditional airlines also fly here, so have a look at www.expedia.co.uk (0870 050 0806) for a quick comparison of fares. Once at the airport there are a few options for reaching the Snowinn. First is hiring a car, which can work out very cheaply if there are a few of you, and is perfect for exploiting our central location. All the usual suspects have offices at the above airports and www.121carrentals.co.uk is a great site for comparing the deals available. As for findng us, have a peek at the Directions here. There is also the coach from most of the airports above. This usually takes about three hours and is about 55 euros one way. For coaches from Geneva look up www.coach-station.com for further information. Satobus runs from Lyon to Bourg St Maurice and can be found at www.satobus-alps.com. DrivingLandry/Les Arcs is a steady 10 hours from the channel ports and this is a good way to travel if there is a convenient group of you. Autoroute tolls will be about £30 each way and fuel is a touch cheaper than in the U.K. We usually find the best ferry deals can be found at www.eurodrive.co.uk (0870 442 9807). TrainCatching the train is probably the most relaxing way to get here. The Eurostar (www.eurostar.com 0870 584 8848) leaves from Kings Cross and, if you leave on Friday night or Saturday morning on the Ski Train, will take you direct to Bourg St. Maurice, only five minutes from the Snow Inn. During the rest of the week, the Eurostar will take you to Paris where you hop on a TGV or an overnight sleeper train that will take you right into the village itself. If you are planning a short trip, the sleeper train option really is worth considering, especially if you work in the South East of England. Leaving on Thursday night, you could ski all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday and make it back to work with a sun-tan and a cheeky grin on Monday morning! |
